Hello all Meerkat Parents/Carers, Family and Friends
Wow! We’re all back at school. We are looking forward to seeing how the children grow, progress and develop in Meerkats.
Our expectations are very high in the classroom and the children are expected to produce work of a good standard and have behaviour to match. Their work needs to be to the best of their ability and presented beautifully.
Thank you for all allowing your children to enter school independently. If you do come through the main gate to drop off you will have to continue around the school’s one-way system and go out of the carpark gate so if you don’t want to do this, we are more than happy for you to drop at the main gate. Mrs Hollis is usually on duty and one of us will be at the internal wooden gate.
Our PE days are Monday and Tuesday. Thank you for sending in the PE kits so promptly we are very impressed. Ideally, a complete PE kit must be in school at all times during term. However, due to covid-19, if you want to wash their kit more regularly, please take it home on a Tuesday and return it by the end of the week.
Homework books will not be sent home this term. However, children should be reading regularly at home. After saying that reading records would not be going home in the Zoom meeting, we have now changed our minds and they will. Children’s books and reading records will come into the classroom and stay on their desks unless a child is asked to read to an adult. The reading records also have the list of Y3/4 high frequency words so the children can practise these spellings.
We would also like the children to practise and learn multiplication and division tables. This term, we are focussing on the 2s, 5s and 10s (from year 2) and then in January we will move on to the 3s, 4s and 8s. Although they may start of by counting on their fingers, it is vital that children have quick recall of these facts. This can be done using the TTrock stars app. They can also do maths at home with Mathletics.
Every child has their own school pencil case with a pencil, whiteboard pen, rubber, glue stick, scissors and blue pen in. They need to look after in order to avoid cross contamination. Any shared equipment in the classroom or in PE, is disinfected after use.
We are going outside as much as we can (within reason) to break up the lessons and keep the children awake! Please remember to send your child with a coat – we all know how changeable the British weather can be!
If you feel that there are any changes or events, however small, which may affect your child then please pass on this information to us so we are aware. You can come and speak to one of us at the beginning or end of the day at the gate – with social distancing of course or you can send an email.

Last Friday, the Meerkats were given this image and asked to write the start to a story that described the setting. These are a few of my favourites.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
